Suzail

The royal capital of Cormyr — a city of wealth, intrigue, and the Purple Dragon Throne.

Suzail, heart of the Forest Kingdom, gleams on the northern shores of the Dragonmere — a city where the banners of House Obarskyr flutter above marble towers and winding cobblestone streets. The clang of forges and the cries of hawkers echo between stately manors, crowded markets, and secret alleys that never sleep. Here, nobles, merchants, and adventurers alike live beneath the watchful gaze of the Purple Dragons and the ever-present eyes of the War Wizards. Beneath its splendour, however, whispers of intrigue and danger course like hidden currents beneath the Dragonmere’s calm surface.

Districts of Suzail

North-West Gate District

Travellers, teamsters, and caravan-masters crowd the lanes by the city gates. Watchtowers loom over stalls of leather and iron, while stables and smithies ring with constant work. Guards in purple cloaks keep the peace as wagons roll in from the Way of the Manticore.

Western Quarter

Hammer and anvil set the rhythm here. Blacksmiths, carpenters, and tinkerers share alleys with fortune-tellers and mercenary lodges. Smoke, sweat, and ambition mingle; the gaming tables and rough taverns do a brisk trade with sellswords between jobs.

Docks of Suzail

Masts bristle against the sky as ships from across the Sea of Fallen Stars come and go. Tar, fish, and spilled wine scent the wind. Honest trade runs beside quieter traffic; when night falls, smugglers and worse test the harbor’s shadows.

Royal & Temple District

Broad avenues, lantern-lit promenades, and high banners. Castle courtyards and wizard towers share the skyline with revered temples. Nobles glide between receptions under careful eyes, where courtesy is armor and every smile may hide a scheme.

Central Quarter

The city’s pulse—markets, theatres, and glittering inns. Jugglers, printers, and costumers ply their trades while rumor runs faster than coin. Soldiers, scribes, and merchants share benches beneath the royal purple.

Eastern Yards & Warehouses

Long sheds of grain, rope, and timber stretch along the bay. Harbor bells mark the tides; ledgers and tally-sticks track fortunes by the crate. Between the stacks, sharp eyes and sharper knives mind their own business.

Artisan Quarter

Dyes, oils, and fresh bread perfume the narrow lanes. Glassblowers, tailors, engravers, and bookbinders fill bright shopfronts with careful work meant for nobles and travellers alike.

Noble Villas

Broad gardens and iron-worked gates guard marble façades. Feast halls and private galleries host both revels and negotiations. Here, a whisper can shift a family’s fortune—or a kingdom’s.

Southern Piers & Barracks

Military piers, drill yards, and stark barracks anchor the southern waterfront. Oil and steel scent the air. Order holds fast by day; by night the taverns swell with sailors’ boasts and mercenaries’ songs.

Landmarks of Note

Royal & Civic Power

Castle Obarskyr crowns the city, while the War Wizards’ tower stands sentinel beside it. The town hall hums with petitions and proclamations; the Obarskyr Guard drill on polished courts. Coin and policy meet at the finance ministry and the royal bank, where ledgers weigh as much as swords.

Temples & Houses of the Gods

Faith is strong in Suzail. Temples to Helm and Ilmater keep vigil and comfort; the House of Oghma preserves hard-won knowledge beside a bustling scriptorium. Down by the water, the faithful of Umberlee bargain with the waves, while the Tower of Good Fortune smiles on the bold and lucky.

Guilds & the Work of Hands

The Mason’s Guild raises arches and avenues. Blacksmiths, armorers, and shield makers feed the city’s steel-hungry heart. Sword dancers keep the warrior’s art alive, while jewelers, goldsmiths, and gem-cutters adorn the nobility. Woodcarvers, stonecutters, herbalists, and tailors lend everyday beauty to Suzail’s life.

Taverns, Inns & Stages

The Six Candles glows with quiet rumor; the Queen’s Head pours strong opinion with stronger ale. The Old King’s Favourite remembers livelier reigns, while the Golden Goblin caters to coin-heavy adventurers. On the waterfront, the Mermaid Inn and the Laughing Lass thrive beside sailors’ haunts. The Royal Theater draws nobles and commoners to gasp as one beneath velvet drapes.

Arcane & Uncanny

Wizard towers and arcane boutiques trade in knowledge and risk. Alchemists and apothecaries bottle fortune by the dram; an illusionist’s parlor sells visions—some kinder than truth. Whispers tell of nocturnal horrors and vampiric hungers that prefer Suzail’s alleys after moonrise.

Beneath the Streets

Old sewers, ossuaries, and forgotten crypts vein the city’s underbelly. Smugglers know some of the turns; darker things know more. When the bells fall silent and the harbor wind dies, Suzail remembers what it was—and what still waits below.
